If the Lions decide not to re-sign Kenny Golladay for some odd reason, the team would need a new number one receiver. And they could find themselves such a player in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Chris Godwin.

Despite living in the shadow of three-time Pro Bowl wideout Mike Evans, the 6-foot-1, 209-pound Godwin has proven he’s more than capable of being a number one NFL wide receiver in his own right. He did so by earning his own Pro Bowl nomination in 2019 after registering 86 receptions for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games.

So far this season, the 24-year old Godwin has posted 41 receptions for 465 yards and three scores in seven games with future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady under center. Adding a player like him to the Lions’ roster in the midst of a rebuild gives the team another foundational piece to build around.

A former third-round selection in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Penn State, Godwin proved he can be a consistent playmaker. Prior to posting his first Pro Bowl season in Tampa Bay last year, he recorded a solid 59 catches for 842 yards and seven touchdowns in only his second season with the Buccaneers.
