Ameer Abdullah strikes back at the Detroit Lions with a rare touchdown

For the Detroit Lions Week 9 matchup, they faced their division rival in the Minnesota Vikings for their first of two matchups this season. While defensive end Everson Griffen and running back Adrian Peterson faced their former longtime team for the first time in a Lions uniform, a player on the Vikings also faced the team he used to be apart of.

Running back Ameer Abdullah faced the Lions as a member of the Vikings this weekend and saw limited action. Usually players who barely play are rarely reported on but on this occasion, Abdullah made quite the impact when he saw the field. He played just 2% of snaps but when he did, he caught a 22-yard pass for a touchdown.

A player of Abdullah’s caliber getting a touchdown is very rare. The most he’s played this season was 29% of snaps in Week 6 against the Atlanta Falcons and he’s had multiple games where he didn’t see the field on offense at all.

The fact that Abdullah, who’s the Vikings fourth string running back, got a touchdown against his former team in the Lions who released him during the 2018 season, should be an embarrassment to the team and organization.

When Abdullah was a member of the Lions, he wasn’t much of a contributor as he failed to live up to expectations, especially considering the fact they drafted him in the second round in 2015.

His best year was his rookie season where he rushed for a total of 597 yards averaging just 37.3 rushing yards a game. Abdullah just went down from there with the Lions. He played in only two games the next season and in 2017, he averaged 3.3 yards a run. 2018 saw him make just one rush attempt over three games before his release.
