Detroit Lions: Midseason rookie report for 2020 draft class
2020 Statistics: 2 sacks and13 pressures allowed on 275 pass blocking snaps
The narrative built around guard Jonah Jackson back in April was that Detroit is getting an offensive lineman whose smart and that makes up for his lack of athletic ability. After watching him, that’s not the case.
There are no issues with his athletic abilities. As of right now, he’s been Bob Quinn’s best draft pick of this class.
Although, no rookie is perfect, there will be some issues. Although, that’s more indicative on the issues along the entire offensive line, rather than Jackson himself.
Best trait: Pass Blocking
Jackson ranks third in pass blocking against all rookie interior offensive lineman. Detroit’s offensive line as a whole has struggled to pick up on blitzes. Regardless, the film has been impressive for Jackson, especially considering Detroit has shifted their starters on the line quite a bit.
Area of Improvement: Pulling
There would be instances where we will see Jackson miss on a block when pulling in the run game. As a one-on-one blocker, I haven’t seen any problems with Jackson’s game. This is something I consider as rookie mistakes and expect it to get better.
