It does get better than this
Just two weeks ago the anti-Patricia part of the Lions fans base were crossing their fingers that Jacksonville would beat these Motor City cats and the rumors of Sheila Ford Hamp shot putting Quinn and Patricia out of Allen Park would come true.
Today we are looking at a very different outcome for this season.
All that Matt Patricia’s Lions have to do is to feast upon the dregs of their schedule and look semi-respectable in defeat to the few decent teams they will face. If that happens, then the Lions will ‘play meaningful games in December’ and Sheila, who believes that continuity is important, will probably retain the dynamic duo of Quinn and Patricia.
If that thought makes you nervous, then you might as well start shaking in your boots. Because the Ford family hasn’t been very good at discerning the difference between a pretender and an actual contender.
A 7-9 or 8-8 record will be considered ‘progress’ and not only will Quinn and Patricia be brought back because they demonstrated an ability to outshine other bad teams and were in the playoff race, but they may also get a contract extension.
Now I understand that good teams take care of business against bad teams, and some fans will say that is what the Lions are doing, but good teams also play other good teams tough and occasionally beat them.
If the Lions finish the season without having defeated at least one team with an above .500 record, then they won’t have proven anything.
This is what every Lions fan is waiting to see. If they can’t slide into the playoffs or beat a good team, will Sheila have the ability to see this season for what it actually is or will she do what the Ford family has done in the past and just decide that this is as good as it gets.
Because I have news for you, it gets a whole lot better than this if the right people are in place to create an actual contender instead of being satisfied with just being a pretender.
