Detroit Lions third number to change

127

The number of missed tackles by Detroit Lions defenders in 2019. By now, you’re probably seeing the theme to the biggest problem areas. The Lions were 28th in missed tackles, which is another way to show the progress that needs to be made.

Both Tavon Wilson and Tracy Walker tied for the most missed tackles with 13, while Damon Harrison led in missed tackle percentage with 18.3% of his tackle attempts missed.

For you stat nerds (like us), if you divide his missed tackles by his combined total tackles and missed tackles added together, you can reach this number. Too many Lions missed too many tackles, which is partially a talent issue but can also be a coaching issue.

Players who know where to look with their eyes, know their assignments, and just have to react are more likely to be in the right place all other things considered.

Some of the worst tacklers have been moved, including Harrison, Diggs, and Devon Kennard who were all replaced during the offseason. To be fair, Jamie Collins was not much better in missed tackles but he offers better athleticism than Kennard and is better in coverage but especially a superior pass rusher.
