Along with their undrafted rookies, the Detroit Lions have signed two of this year’s nine draft picks.

The Detroit Lions have signed contracts with their fourth round (121st overall) draft pick left guard Logan Stenberg and their sixth round (197th overall) nose tackle John Penisini. That leaves seven more draft picks to sign. The contract numbers are also out for the undrafted players they signed following the 2020 NFL Draft.

Stenberg signed a four-year rookie contract with a $741,644 signing bonus and yearly salaries of $610,000 in 2020, $780,000 in 2021, $895,000 in 2022 and $1.01 million in 2023. The Lions salary cap will be hit with the above salaries and $185,411 each year (that is the signing bonus allocated over the four years of the contract).

Penisini signed a four-year rookie contract with a $171,176 signing bonus and yearly salaries of $610,000 in 2020, $780,000 in 2021, $895,000 in 2022 and $1.01 million in 2023. The Lions salary cap will be hit with the above salaries and $42,794 each year for the signing bonus allocation.

Neither contract has any other guaranteed salaries as a part of the contract (other than the signing bonus). The same can’t be said for the undrafted players though, some of them have both a signing bonus and a portion of the 2020 salary as guaranteed (meaning they will be paid that money regardless if they make the team or not).

The Detroit Lions undrafted rookie free agent signings

All the undrafted players signed a three-year contract and all of them have the same 2020 salary amount of $610,000 (with 2021 being $780,000 and 2020 at $895,000). Two have no other salary guarantees after their signing bonuses, which for both Luke Sellers and Bobby Price was $5,000 each.

Jeremiah Dinson got a $30,000 signing bonus and another $20,000 of his 2020 salary guaranteed. Tight end Hunter Bryant got a $20,000 signing bonus and another $20,000 of his 2020 salary guaranteed.

The above salary information can be found at overthecap.com for each player with a signed contract. The site has the Detroit Lions sitting at $29,394,644 in available salary-cap space at this time and this figure will fluctuate as more of the draft picks are signed. The roster currently remains at 90 players (seven being the unsigned draft picks) as it has since May 1st with no transactions since.  Rather a slow month for the Lions and the NFL in general.
