Detroit Lions 2020 NFL Draft: 7-round mock with two trades
There’s not much to say here. Former punter Sam Martin is now with the Denver Broncos and it leaves Detroit with no one at the position. It seems that the Lions and Braden Mann have built a rapport at this year’s senior bowl, but only time will tell.
Taking a quarterback in the seventh round isn’t going to ensure the future. With all of the injuries in the past two seasons, Detroit might carry three quarterbacks on the roster.
Drafting a quarterback to compete with David Blough for the third spot is a smart move. Chase Daniels will most likely be Matthew Stafford’s backup in the upcoming season, especially with the money he’s making.
Offensive Coordinator Darrell Bevell came to Detroit with more of a vertical scheme and all of the backups in 2019 didn’t have particularly strong arms. Cole McDonald, however, does. He’s not the most polished quarterback and has a lot to work on for his game to improve.
Throwing for 4,135 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions at Hawaii last season, he would be an exciting project. Linebacker Jahlani Tavai was also his teammate, which is fun.
