2020 NFL Draft: 6th Round, 182nd Overall

The Detroit Lions select…

Name: Isaiah Hodgins
Position: Wide Receiver
School: Oregon State
Height/Weight: 6-4 / 210
2019 Stats: 12 games played, 86 receptions, 1171 yards, 13 touchdowns
Draft Round Projection: 4-6

Pick Analysis: The Lions like tall wideouts, and have had excellent success in turning former third-round pick, Kenny Golladay, into one of the best receivers in the NFL. With their penultimate selection, they add a pass-catcher with a similar frame to Golladay to their crowded receiver room.

Like many receivers his size, Hodgins is adept at boxing out smaller defenders and using his length and suction cup hands to haul in contested grabs. He is at his best in the red zone, as evidenced by his 13 touchdown catches as a senior.

His route running and speed (4.61 40-yard dash) are below average, prompting his late-round selection. His physical traits are appealing, but his lack of refinement make him strictly a project player, much like receiver Travis Fulgham, one of the Lions’ 2019 sixth-round selections. Those two could be competing for one job at some point in the future.
