2020 NFL Draft: 5th Round, 149th Overall

The Detroit Lions select…

Name: Michael Ojemudia
Position: Cornerback
School: Iowa
Height/Weight: 6-1 / 200
2019 Stats: 12 games played, 3 interceptions, 52 total tackles,
Draft Round Projection: 4-6

Pick Analysis: The Lions double-dip at corner, and snag the physically impressive former Hawkeye, who looks built to play on the outside. Still, an uneven career at Iowa in terms of playmaking likely warrants an extended apprenticeship in the Lions’ scheme and time before being ready to contribute.

His aggressive style is well suited to pressuring and jamming receivers near the line of scrimmage but he left some plays on the field when tracking faster receivers at deeper levels. Additionally, his run-stopping skills will need to improve in order for him to gain the trust of the Lions’ coaching staff.

Late-round cornerback selections are no sure thing and often are relegated to spot duty and special teams snaps for extended periods of time. The Lions, though, are in full reconstruct mode in the defensive backfield and add to that unit’s depth in round five.
