2020 NFL Draft: 3rd Round, 85th Overall

The Detroit Lions select…

Name: DaVon Hamilton
Position: Defensive Line
School: Ohio State
Height/Weight: 6-4 / 320
2019 Stats: 13 games played, 6.0 sacks, 28 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss
Draft Round Projection: 3-5

Pick Analysis: With a pick acquired from the Eagles in the Slay trade, the Lions add more depth to their defensive line with Hamilton and reunite him with his former Buckeye teammate Okudah.

Hamilton is a mammoth of a man, somewhat in the mold of the departed Robinson. He projects to be much more of a factor in affecting the passing game though, something that never materialized for Robinson in his four years in Detroit.

Hamilton likely needs to line up next to a more advanced playmaker to be effective; he has the size to play as a nose tackle but is much more effective over a guard as an extra-large three-technique.

Should the Lions’ other pieces fall into place on their remodeled defensive line, Hamilton may have trouble locating snaps early on. Still, he figures to be an important part of that unit at some point, and would provide solid insurance should the dreaded injury bug attack the position group as it did last year.
