2020 NFL Draft: 7th Round, 235th Overall

The Detroit Lions select…

Name: Jared Hilbers
Position: Offensive Line
School: Washington
Height/Weight: 6-7 / 316
2019 Stats: 12 games played, 12 starts
Draft Round Projection5-7

Pick Analysis: This may be a little later than many would like the Lions to address an important position but in this situation, they select a developmental player who could face a steep climb to make the roster come September.

Hilbers started all 12 games in 2019 at right tackle for the Huskies after spending considerable time on the other side of the line in previous years. He has good length for a right tackle but lacks the functional strength and athleticism at this point to be able to compete for meaningful snaps.

The Lions are set at both starting tackle positions, with Taylor Decker and Halapoulivaati Vaitai and have an experienced backup in Tyrell Crosby. Hilbers would likely be ticketed for a spot on the practice squad as a rookie, but developing tackles is an important part of NFL team building.
