Tavon Wilson, SS
The Lions are very young at the safety position. Spending their previous third-round selections on safeties Tracy Walker (2018) and Will Harris (2019), Detroit has secured the position for the foreseeable future.
The Lions felt so comfortable, in fact, they traded away another young and talented safety in Quandre Diggs last season to the Seattle Seahawks for pennies on the dollar.
Despite the presence of Walker and Harris, veteran safety Tavon Wilson still started 13 games and recorded a career-high 98 tackles. The 29-year old was vital to the secondary last season as the former New England Patriot brings an important veteran presence to a very young positional group.
Recently, Wilson has expressed his desire to stay in the Motor City. And the Lions should strongly consider re-signing him. Coming off a career-season, the eight-year veteran is expected to garner tons of interest on the open market. But his loss in Detroit’s secondary would be felt.
Don Muhlbach, LS
No one seems to care about the position of long snapper until they make a mistake. The fact that you don’t hear Don Muhlbach‘s name much is actually a good thing. The two-time Pro Bowler will turn 39-years old before the start of the season. But the Lions should retain him as long as he wants to play as consistency at his position is vital to special teams success.
