Four free agents the Detroit Lions should consider re-signing
Mike Daniels, DT
When the Lions signed former Green Bay Packers defensive tackle and Pro Bowler Mike Daniels to a one-year, $9.1 million deal last July, it was seen as a major victory for the organization.
And the fact Daniels went on the record to say he came to Detroit due to the presence of second-year head coach Matt Patricia was a feather in his cap (and a pencil on his ear). Yet, the former Packer would play in only nine games and record a mere 10 tackles and a single sack in 2019.
After that injury-plagued season, it’s understandable why the Lions would want to move on from the soon-to-be 31-year old. Yet, the recent parting of the ways between the team and Damon Harrison might change things.
With Harrison leaving plus both A’Shawn Robinson and Darius Kilgo being unrestricted free agents, the interior of the Lions defensive line is near non-existent.
Perhaps retaining Daniels for another season on a more team-friendly, prove-it deal would give the veteran an opportunity to make good on the large contract he signed last year.
