Chris Harris

Position: Cornerback

2019 team/Salary: Denver Broncos / $9.8 million

2019 stats: 16 games played, 16 starts, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble, 56 total tackles

Age: 30

Height/Weight: 5-10 / 199

Harris has spent the majority of his career patrolling the slot for the Denver Broncos, ranking as one of the best at that position during much of his tenure. He was a key member of the Broncos’ 2016 Super Bowl-winning team, and he has continued his fine play in the years since, picking off eight passes in the subsequent seasons.

Harris’ durability has been impressive as well. He has missed just five games since entering the league in 2011. That’s no small feat at a position that puts a large amount of strain on the lower body and sees some of the best players manning that spot constantly forced to the sideline with injuries. He’ll be 31 by the time next season begins, so that good fortune could change at any time. But his track record of staying on the field and contributing consistently is hard to ignore.

Where he would fit in the Lions’ lineup is up for debate. Nominally a nickel corner, Harris would have to adapt his game somewhat since the Lions have a sizable investment at that spot in  Coleman. Is he up for a new role at this point in his career? If the Lions feel like he is and if they can reach a reasonable agreement, he could be an excellent stopgap while the Lions develop Oruwariye and whichever rookie cornerbacks they may add in the draft.
