While the Lions have two franchise, possession-heavy receivers in Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones Jr., veteran Danny Amendola proved to be very effective in the slot, helping provide easy third-down completions over the middle of the field.

Should the Lions decide to let Amendola test the free agency waters, the Lions would be wise to sign another veteran slot guy, both for injury insurance and to help be a mentor for some young pass catchers.

Between Denver and San Francisco, Emmanuel Sanders posted 66 catches for 869 yards and 5 TDs in the regular season. While he is clearly past his prime, Sanders has proven to be more than effective in short spurts.

Sanders also gives the Lions a savvy pass catcher who has playoff experience, being that the two-time Pro Bowler has gone to the Super Bowl with both the Niners and the Denver Broncos.

The Lions pursuing an offensive Swiss army knife like Sanders as a no-brainer, as he can keep Detroit’s versatile passing attack amongst the NFL’s elite.
