Detroit Lions draft prospect #5: Jerry Jeudy – WR
Like I said in my previous article, I’m not opposed to the Lions taking Jerry Jeudy with the third overall pick. Considering how bad Detroit’s defense was this past season, wide receiver is the only offensive position that I could tolerate them drafting. Jerry Jeudy fits the slipper for me.
Standing at 6-foot-1 and 192 pounds, Jeudy is a versatile wide receiver. He can beat you with his pure speed down the field, or snatch your ankles with his yards after catch (YAC) ability.
Running a 4.40 in the 40-yard dash at his Alabama Junior Pro Day last spring, Jeudy has the ability to stretch the defense, and potentially open up other receivers underneath. This would be a great addition to an already superb Detroit receiving core with Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones.
In 13 games this past season, Jeudy caught the ball 77 times, racking up over 1150 yards and getting 10 touchdowns in the process. It’s a slight decrease from his sophomore campaign where he put up over 1,300 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Without a doubt, Jeudy is one of, if not the best prospect in the draft. He’s a unique type of player with big-play ability.
However, getting a wide receiver with the third overall pick is definitely a gamble considering Detroit’s situation. Offense definitely wasn’t a liability this season, let alone the WR position.
If it weren’t for the Lions’ dire defensive needs, and an already solid receiving core, I would put Jeudy higher on this list. For right now, he stays at number five..
