When opportunity knocks, don’t mess it up

Opportunity is knocking for the Detroit Lions and instead of blindly missing out on it, this is a chance to get it right. This is a chance to help change the course of this franchise. Sure things may not go as planned. Maybe the Bengals like what they see of Tagovailoa’s medical reports and they take him number one.

That means that Joe Burrow will probably be there at number three, the Lions would still have an opportunity to select an elite quarterback or trade down and get a favorable package in return which would still maximize their chances to improve this team immediately.

And if the Redskins went rogue and took Burrow, then the Lions get Chase Young. These are all absolutely win scenarios. There is only one lose scenario and it is the one that Lions fans should fear the most.

That ‘lose’ scenario would be to keep the third-pick and select anyone other than Tagovailoa, Young or Burrow.

I’m sorry but taking receiver Jerry Juedy or cornerback Jeffrey Okudah when Tagovailoa, Young or Burrow are on the board would be suicide for Quinn and Patricia.

If they don’t want one of those three elite players, provided of course Tagovailoa’s medical report is good, then they either trade down for what should be a good return and extra opportunities to improve this franchise or just submit their resignation instead of screwing the pooch.

The addition of Tua Tagovailoa to the 2020 draft has created exciting possibilities for the Lions. Possibilities that could either give the Lions a boatload of picks to improve or maybe even a future franchise quarterback.

If Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia mess this one up, then they just might as well stick a fork in themselves because they will be done.
