Detroit Lions must stash Matthew Stafford and chase Chase Young
CHANGES AT THE TOP
The obvious flaw in this kind of thinking is that Bob Quinn and head coach Matt Patricia will look bad with a final tally of 3-12-1, and closing the season with nine straight losses. But with what has transpired, does anyone care if they stick around?
The best option for Quinn and Patricia is to go and explain to owner Martha Firestone Ford that this is the path to winning. Layout a plan that involves drafting high and showing results in 2020. Admit that this team lacks talent and has nothing left to play for this season. And hope for mercy on Martha’s behalf.
It sounds terrible, but it is the absolute truth. It is hard to support Quinn and Patricia if they can’t commit to making this team better. Another win or two this season will not make the team better. It will make this team worse, just as it did last season.
If they can’t commit to that, then Quinn and Patricia may not be the men to lead this team. And it is hard to constantly be switching leadership, mostly because the Detroit Lions end up at the bottom of the league even when they make a change (not in record, just in reputation and ability to win a Super Bowl).
But this is it. If you want to win, you have to start by losing. Do you agree? Is it time to stash Matthew Stafford and chase Chase Young? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
