Eric Bieniemy, Offensive Coordinator – Chiefs

When Andy Reid was hired as the new head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013 after a successful 14-year run with the Philadelphia Eagles, Reid made former NFL running back Eric Bieniemy part of his coaching staff.

And for five years Bieniemy coached the running backs for the Chiefs under Reid. In 2018, he was promoted to offensive coordinator. And with second-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes under center, Bieniemy helped Kansas City to field the highest-scoring offense in the NFL racking up an incredible 35.3 points per contest.

Mahomes would go on to win the NFL MVP Award and lead the Chiefs to a 12-4 record. Kansas City would make it all the way to the AFC Championship game where they would lose to the eventual Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.

In his second season as offensive coordinator, Bieniemy has the Chiefs at the top of the AFC West standings at 6-3 despite losing Mahomes to a dislocated right kneecap in Week Seven. Kansas City is currently second in passing yards per game (300.7) and is scoring an average of 28.0 points per contest.

Expect the 50-year old Bieniemy to get plenty of interviews for head coaching jobs this offseason. And there’s no reason Detroit shouldn’t be one of them.
