2 players to watch for the Giants
Golden Tate – Who else would it be? The veteran receiver was a standout performer for the Lions for 4 & 1/2 seasons before being shipped to the Philadelphia Eagles last season. He averaged 93 receptions, 1,056 yards and just under five touchdowns in his four full campaigns in Detroit. After missing this season’s first four games due to a league-mandated suspension, he has averaged 65 receiving yards per game, providing a steady security blanket for his rookie quarterback.
There’s little doubt that Tate would like to have a big performance in his return to Michigan, and he should see his fair share of targets on Sunday. Always a fan favorite, look for him to be greeted warmly by the Lions faithful; unless he starts carving up Detroit’s secondary the way he did so many times to opponents when he wore the Honolulu Blue.
Nate Solder – The Giants’ left tackle has underperformed since inking a monster 4-year, $62 million deal in March of 2018. Keeping a rookie quarterback on his feet is a pivotal task for any offensive line, and the Lions haven’t been able to generate nearly enough pressure in recent weeks.
If Solder can keep Jones clean, the Giants could certainly walk out of Ford Field with a win. If he falters against whomever the Lions line up across from him, it will be a long day for the Giants’ offense, and a big confidence booster for a dormant Lions pass rush.
