Lions at Eagles: Philly expert spills the Birds secrets
2. Name one relatively unknown Eagles’ player that you believe will surprise Lions fans on Sunday.
GK: I’m not sure if this is would qualify as an unknown seeing as how he’s been hyped by the stat gurus of PFF and a few writers from several well-known sources, but the JJ Arcega-Whiteside era hasn’t quite taken off in Philly as we thought it would. He’s due for a breakout.
So is Mack Hollins. The latter played well in relief of an injured DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery, and after sitting out in 2018, it would be nice to see him pop in 2019. He’ll get plenty of opportunities to do so over the course of the next two weeks. We’ll see how he does.
3. What positional group do you consider to be the Eagles’ weakest and why?
GK: Every year, it seems like we’re talking about the cornerbacks. It’s 2019, and again, we’re talking about the cornerbacks. It took three years for Sidney Jones to snag his first interception. Then, he got hurt. Rasul Douglas played well in Week 2, but no one can forget how he was victimized in Week 1.
Jalen Mills and Cre’von LeBlanc can’t play because of injury. Ronald Darby is supposed to be the best corner on the team, and no one fears him. He’s been the most targeted of the Eagles’ cover guys. Matt Ryan had some success in doing so, and as bad as that sounds, it could have been worse.
Ryan could have gotten him two more times, but he overthrew his intended receiver. It’s true. The pass rush could be better, but still, it goes without saying. These guys have to be better in coverage.
