2 players to watch for the Lions

Tyrell Crosby – Crosby may not even see the field, but starting left tackle Taylor Decker was limited all week in practice and his status for today’s game is up in the air. Decker is also coming off of a miserable performance in Week 1.

Should he be unable to go, Crosby will get the call. Should Crosby play and hold his own against the Chargers’ edge defenders (certainly a tall order), what could that mean for this position going forward?

Trey Flowers The Lions’ high-profile free agent signing had a quiet start to his tenure with Detroit, aside from a costly face mask penalty in the fourth quarter.

With Chargers starting left tackle Russell Okung out with an illness, look for the Lions to unleash Flowers off the edge against Okung’s inexperienced replacement Trenton Scott, while also moving him inside on third downs. The Lions have high hopes for Flowers, and can’t afford to wait for him to produce.

2 players to watch for the Chargers

Thomas Davis The veteran linebacker played all 63 defensive snaps in Week 1, and is an important leader for the Chargers defense. However, he struggles in coverage, and the Lions would be wise to look to put him in tough matchups in the short area of the field, particularly on dump offs and screen looks with Kerryon Johnson.

Mike Williams – With Henry out and Slay likely to follow Allen for most of the day, the former first round receiver is sure to receive his share of targets. However, Williams is questionable to play, as he is dealing with a knee injury. Should he go, he could need a big performance to help the Chargers move the ball with consistency.
