Mark Thompson, RB

The running back depth chart is already stacked with talent. And injuries across the roster will likely force Detroit to go heavy elsewhere. Still, Thompson has been impressive this summer and certainly worthy of consideration for the final 53. Yet, I’m unsure the numbers game will allow the team to keep four running back on their regular-season roster.

It was tough sledding for the second-year power back against the Cleveland Browns Thursday night. But Thompson was still able to rush for 35 yards on 11 carries. He also had a couple of lengthy runs called back due to penalties.

In the end, it will be difficult for Mark Thompson to make the final roster with running backs Kerryon Johnson, C.J. Anderson and rookie Ty Johnson cemented ahead of him on the depth chart. He seems to be much more likely to pass through waivers and be a candidate for the practice squad.
