Did these 5 Detroit Lions do enough to crack the final 53?

Travis Fulgham, WR

The depth at wide receiver in Detroit is concerning. The season-ending injury suffered by Jermaine Kearse in the preseason opener really put this positional group behind the eight ball. And no one has really stepped up to fill his role as a trustworthy primary backup to projected starters Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones, and Danny Amendola.

I fully expect the Lions to look to the waiver wire or free agency for additional help in the coming days. But as for Travis Fulgham, I believe he answered any questions about his status with his performance Thursday night.

As the Lions most impactful receiver against the Browns, I believe Fulgham secured his place on Detroit’s final-53 with his performance. Racking up a team-high 80 yards on only three catches, the sixth-round rookie out of Old Dominion should make the cut.

Still, Fulgham’s inexperience is obviously an issue. And being the primary backup to a starting group that includes Marvin Jones, someone who is coming off a season-ending knee injury, could become a problem. So I fully expect the Lions to scour the waiver wire/open market for a veteran receiver they can sign to add a bit more experience to the depth chart.
