The 2019 NFL Draft is in the books. The Detroit Lions acquired nine new players, each with a diverse profile, covered extensively here on SideLion Report. Today, we’ll examine the draft haul for each of the Lions’ divisional opponents.
That was fast! After months of speculation, analysis, mock drafts, discussion and even more mock drafts, the 2019 NFL Draft is complete. The Detroit Lions pulled in nine new players to fill a variety of roles. The rest of the NFC North however, also generated a slew of interesting storylines with their collection of picks.
The Lions entered the draft with nine picks, and after a pair of trades in the middle rounds, also ended up with nine picks. While some figure to have a bigger impact than others, each one brings something different to the team. Now, on to the other teams in the NFC North. In the first round, a total of four players were selected by the division, two on offense and two on defense. The Chicago Bears, thanks to their acquisition of star edge defender Khalil Mack prior to last season, were without a draft pick until the third round. Despite being low on picks this year, it’s safe to say that the Bears still got the better end of that transaction.
A total of 34 players were drafted by the four NFC North teams, with 16 coming on defense, 17 on offense and one specialist. Here, we’ll analyze the selections for each of the Lions’ divisional opponents, including which players could become contributors as rookies, as well as potential implications for their respective teams.
