2019 NFL Draft: Sixth Round, 204th Overall

The Detroit Lions select …

Name: Chase Hansen
Position: Safety/Linebacker
School: Utah
Height/Weight: 6-3, 222
2018 Stats: 12 games, 5.0 sacks, 2 interceptions
Draft Round Projection: 4th-6th round

Pick Analysis: Linebacker is a sneaky area of need for the Lions, and one they have yet to seriously address during the offseason. Hansen offers them a late round option, should they tap other positions in the earlier rounds.

Hansen transitioned from safety to linebacker during the 2018 season at Utah. That positional flexibility is a hallmark of players for whom Bob Quinn searches, and it’s an important element of end-of-the-roster types on many NFL teams.

At under 230 pounds, it’s difficult to see Hansen playing a regular role on defense as a linebacker for the Lions, but he could be an early contributor on special teams thanks to his well rounded game and versatility.
