2019 NFL Draft: Fifth Round, 146th Overall

The Detroit Lions select …

Name: Gary Jennings
Position: Wide Receiver
School: West Virginia
Height/Weight: 6-1, 214
2018 Stats: 11 games played, 54 receptions, 917 yards, 13 touchdowns
Draft Round Projection: 3rd-5th round

Pick Analysis: The Lions’ wide receiver corps has undergone some significant changes over the past year, here they get a solid pass catcher who was very productive as a Mountaineer. He could be a long term replacement for veteran receiver Marvin Jones.

Jennings was somewhat overshadowed in college by teammate David Sills, another part of West Virginia’s dangerous aerial attack led by quarterback Will Grier. Jennings was very productive in his last two seasons in Morgantown though, totaling over 2,000 receiving yards. He also made a huge jump in scoring as a senior, going from just one touchdown as junior to 13 last year.

Jennings is an athletic pass catcher and he has proven to be a legitimate deep threat. His new role in the Mountaineers’ offense last year proved that he is worthy of a spot in an NFL receiving corps. However, his shaky ball skills could keep him from being picked any higher. He would provide the Lions with great value in the fifth round, with a chance for his role to grow as the Lions’ receiving corps evolves.
