Detroit Lions: 7-Round 2019 Mock Draft 2.0
Round Six, Pick 11- Drue Tranquill, Linebacker, Notre Dame
Drue Tranquill was a leader and captain for the Notre Dame defense this year that ranked 30th overall in total defense in the FBS. Tranquill was the third on the team in tackle with 86 total tackles, but tied for first in solo tackles with 63. He also racked up nine tackles for a loss, three and a half sacks, four passes defensed, and one fumble recovery.
The fifth year senior will probably not earn an every down role for the Lions but expect to see him on the field a lot as a major special teams contributor.
He could step into a third down linebacker role as a coverage linebacker as he has experience as a defensive back and is solid in coverage, something the Lions have been missing from their linebackers the past few years.
Others Considered: Zederick Woods S Ole Miss, Gardner Minshew QB WASH ST, Albert Huggins DT CLEM
Round Six, Pick 28- Gardner Minshew, Quarterback, Washington State
The Lions have not had a backup quarterback they can rely on for a while now. Minshew transferred into Washington State as a graduate transfer and played some pretty good football.
While I don’t expect to ever see him as a long-term starting quarterback in the league, he definitely has the traits to be a successful backup; and the Lions most talented backup in forever.
Others Considered: Zederick Woods S Ole Miss, Jojo McIntosh S WASH, Ben Powers OG OKLA, Anthony Nelson DT Iowa
