Detroit Lions are looking forward to 2019 and the draft. Which got us thinking, “How many Michigan Wolverines could play for the Lions right now?”

The Detroit Lions, via their three-game skid, have all but eliminated themselves from playoff or division contention. There is a team in Michigan that has championship aspirations, the Michigan Wolverines. That got me thinking, “How many Wolverines would make the Lions?”  Take a look!

At 3-6, the Lions look like a team rebuilding; in fact, the Cleveland Browns have the same record. THAT is depressing.

The Michigan Wolverines, nestled in close-by Ann Arbor, have only lost one football game this season. They lost a 7-point decision to the Fighting Irish in South Bend the first week of the season. Currently, they are ranked 4th in the country according to the Associated Press and hold the 4th spot in the college football playoff rankings.

Watching Michigan football improve is all that is keeping us mostly sane. Let’s face it, from here on out the Lions are playing for draft position. At this point, we would earn a Top 10 selection.

At some positions, especially where the Lions have youth, it would be easy to augment with college players who are performing at a high level and are draft-eligible. Admittedly, Michigan has a lot of talented, draft-eligible athletes who could declare if the Wolverines win a National Title and some that have run out of college eligibility, too.

Here at Kick in the Crotch Weekly, we strive to be 100% honest. Optimism is now reserved for the development of the young talent on the roster and how much cap room we can clear before free agency. This season has to fall into a worst-case scenario for the Lions. Let’s take each major unit where the Lions need help, first.

NFL Draft Scout has good info on players and their measurables, so we use their rankings as a reference point.
