Since the Detroit Lions have been anywhere from bad to worse over the last 60 years, Is it possible to turn things around quickly?
The Detroit Lions are mired in another typical season for them. The brief ray of sunshine the fans saw over the course of the offseason has gone away and been replaced by the perpetual dark and dreary skies we’ve seen for the last 60 years.
Welcome to Detroit Lions football!
This is the franchise that defies the odds and has proven that maybe a blind squirrel can’t find a nut. Maybe they fall off a limb instead and get run over by a passing stampede of wild musk ox.
After all, isn’t that what has happened to the Lions every year since 1957?
Year after year we sit around and say, ‘things will be different this season.’ But outside of changing stadiums and ticket/concession pricing, what has changed?
We complain about the offense and ask each other why we can’t find an innovative coach to change things but consider how innovative this franchise has been at finding ways to lose. Every time I think they’ve found every way possible, they come up with new innovative, insane ways to collapse and turn victory into humiliating defeat.
Yes, as my good friend put it so eloquently, ‘Being a Lions fan sucks!’
I suppose there are worse things we could be afflicted with, but I’m having a hard time thinking of any at the moment.
So as we wake up to face another day of having a laughing stock NFL franchise, we find our minds barraged with questions like, how can this possibly happen? Why on Earth do the football Gods hate the Detroit Lions and their fans so much? Will this team ever compete for a title again?
It takes a brave man or at least an employee of the Detroit Lions franchise to predict a brighter future for this team.
But what if we have been asking the wrong questions? Perhaps the question isn’t a matter of when the Lions will compete for a title again. Perhaps the question is; how long does it take to exorcize 60 years of lousy football?
