Detroit Lions: The Good, Part II

Graham Glasgow– Another early pick, (3rd-Round, 2016) where the Lions have been hit-or-miss. Glasgow has been a staple in the starting offensive line unit out of the University of Michigan. Glasgow has manned both guard and center since being drafted in 2016. Last year he was the only lineman to play every starter snap.

Anthony Zettel– For this list, a sixth-round selection who starts and has good production for a couple of seasons is worth calling a score. Not enough late round finds for whoever has been at the helm of the Lions front office. Bob Quinn found Zettel in his first draft as the general manager, back in 2016. Zettel was let go after the Lions changed defenses in 2018.

Quandre Diggs– Diggs has moved from slot corner to strong safety and done well, the Lions rewarding him with a new contract this year. For being a late round pick (6th, 2015), he has carved out a nice role on the team as both a tough, consistent tackler and cover guy. Diggs is a fan favorite for all of those reasons.

Nevin Lawson– The former 4th-Round prospect (2014) has been a starter, albeit an inconsistent one. In the span of one minute last year he got beaten badly for a touchdown and had a forced fumble- recovery for a touchdown of his own.

However, he is still on the roster and continuing to earn time. Again, every semi-successful story has to be told. Lawson is a late round guy that has stuck.

Theo Riddick– The 2013 draftee was the 6th-Round pick from the Fighting Irish. Riddick has been a great receiver and made a living on third down. A rare late round find outside of the last couple of years.

Tahir Whitehead– Whitehead started at both middle and outside linebacker while in Detroit. The former 5th-Round selection just left in free agency this past offseason. Very good value from a late pick.

Willie Young– Young was a 7th-Round rotational player at defensive end. A starter for just one year, Young did get plenty of snaps as a backup and was a Lions player from 2010-2013. Getting 48 games out of a 7th is pretty good.
