Second Quarter

Detroit quickly called a 30-second timeout prior to the first snap of the second quarter. After they reset themselves on defense, Carson gained five yards on the ground and then on a spectacular play fake by Wilson, Tyler Lockett caught a deep 24-yard touchdown to quickly even up the game in a 7-7 tie.

Ameer Abdullah came out of the end zone on the subsequent kickoff but a hard hit forced him to fumble with the Seahawks recovering. With Seattle firmly in the driver’s seat after forcing a special teams turnover, they quickly capitalized by as David Moore caught a juggling touchdown catch over Teez Tabor, 14-7 Seattle.

After a penalty backed Detroit deep into their own territory, LeGarrette Blount caught a screen pass and rumbled downfield for 23-yards. A subsequent Seattle penalty helped move the Lions forward on their drive and Kerryon then gained another 4-yards on the ground but the Lion offense stalled out after failing to convert on third down and Detroit had to punt the ball back to their opponent.

On Seattle’s first down play, Lions linebacker Jarrad Davis torpedoed Carson after he gained only a yard and he was held in check again on second down. On 3rd & 7, David Moore was deemed to have dropped a pass but Seattle head coach Pete Carroll threw out his red challenge flag and the referees reversed the call and awarded the 27-yard catch.

A chop-block penalty then pushed Seattle back to 1st & 25 which pushed them out of Detroit territory but an amazing catch by Doug Baldwin put Seattle right back into Lion territory. On 3rd & 4 in the red zone, Ed Dickson caught a 12-yard touchdown, 21-7 Seattle.

Reeling from three straight Seahawk touchdown scores, Detroit took the field trying to score some urgent points. Kerryon gained seven yards and that was the last play prior to the two-minute warning.

Detroit continued to work, trying to drive the ball down the field but after a catch, Luke Willson dropped a pass to make it 3rd & 10 and then Stafford was sacked for a loss. Sam Martin came in to flip the field and pinned the Seahawks back on their own 7-yard line. Seattle ran the clock down until halftime and they went into the break up by two touchdowns.

After an impressive opening drive, Detroit lost their momentum after the Abdullah fumble as they gave up three straight touchdowns in the second quarter. The Lions would receive the ball first coming out of halftime but they faced an uphill battle.
