Lions vs Packers: Turnovers the difference in Detroit’s first divisional win
Third Quarter
Green Bay opened the second half with the ball and as they were trying to engineer a scoring drive Kennard and Okwara struck with back-to-back sacks. The Packers converted a 4th & 11 play and from there, Rodgers tried to find Jimmy Graham deep in the end zone but it was a missed opportunity.
Still, the Packer QB found one of his young receivers, Marquez Valdes-Scantling for a 3-yard score. The Pack was successful on the 2-point conversion and after a strong drive, the Lion lead was cut to two possessions, 24-8 Detroit.
Detroit initially went three-and-out but an unsportsmanlike penalty on Green Bay kept Detroit’s drive alive. Kerryon Johnson then managed to tip-toe his way up the sideline for a nice 12-yard gain on a screen pass but the Lion offense fell flat and Prater missed a 55-yard field goal.
Green Bay continued to try and swing the momentum further in their favor and they converted their second 4th down of the game. Rodgers tossed his second touchdown of the game to Lance Kendricks but they were missed on their second 2-point conversion attempt, 24-14 Detroit.
The Lions took back over as they looked to reverse their season-long trend of dismal third-quarter play. Golden Tate converted a first down by gaining his trademark yards after the catch. On a free play, Marvin Jones dropped a sure touchdown catch in the end zone and Blount was stuffed in the backfield for no gain on 2nd & 1 as the quarter came to a close.
