Where do the Detroit Lions and Matt Patricia go from here?
By Robert Jones
So the fans are once again left holding the bag and scratching their heads wondering that fateful question; Where do the Lions go from here?
There are no easy answers to this situation, but there are circumstances that may provide a little hope.
The Jets claimed that they basically knew every play the Lions ran. This in itself isn’t a good thing because if the Jets knew what the Lions were doing every step of the way, then almost certainly other teams will too.
However, if we break away from that bleak possibility, then it should be mentioned that having the Jets all over every play only means that it was virtually amazing for the Lions offense to accomplish what they did. Even if it wasn’t much.
So what does that mean? Well, in a nutshell, if the San Francisco 49ers are hopefully not as bright as the Jets, then perhaps we will see what this offense can do. The 49ers are building a contender, but they aren’t the 1985 Bears on defense.
At least not yet.
The offense and Matthew Stafford, in particular, are better than what they played like last Monday. They have no excuse not to rebound and play better. Their implosion certainly crippled their chances at winning what was a very winnable game.
The Lions and Matt Patricia need a bounce-back game so very badly that finding a rhythm and playing like one of the top offenses in the NFL like they were last season is virtually imperative and crucial beyond all measure.
The reason? Because the defense is bad. Like, they made a rookie look like Joe Namath, type of bad. As in; what will Jimmy Garoppolo look like against them? Perhaps his former mentor, Tom Brady?
If the thought is too horrible to bear, then please do not tune into any more Lions games for a while. The defensive personnel on this team has been incompetent and after displaying it throughout the exhibition season, they brought that incompetency to the national spotlight of Monday Night Football so everyone in the world could see how heart-breaking it is to be a Lions fan.
