For the Detroit Lions was the win in Tampa really a win?

The second half rally the Lions pulled off was accomplished by players all fighting for a spot on the team against a bunch of Buccaneers that are trying to desperately keep themselves on the roster instead of having to walking the plank.

And a special teams gem by Brandon Powell who returned a punt for a touchdown, put them in position to complete the comeback.

So while it wasn’t a work of art, a wins a win, right?

To Matt Patricia’s credit, he cast a very critical eye on his team after the game and pointed out that this coaching staff and roster have much work to do.

We all would’ve liked to have seen Stafford get the Lions in the end zone, but as far as the offense goes, I admit that I’m really not too concerned.

The Lions did display an ability to run the ball. Even if some of it was LeGarrette Blount plowing over guys who are only days away from heading to the unemployment office.

Even when the Lions starters came out for the second half and failed to score on the Tampa back-ups, I wasn’t too upset. They are a work in progress that is just not firing on all cylinders yet. I really believe they will be fine.

My concerns lay fully on the other side of the ball.

In the first half the starting defense bent and even crumpled at times, but didn’t really break. Yet they still need to be much better. It wasn’t until the second half that the real concern popped up.

That would be when the Buccaneers third string quarterback, Ryan Griffin, surrounded by miscellaneous skill position players that are trying to win a spot on their roster, marched down the field against the Lions starting defense and punched it into the end zone for a score.
