Detroit Lions: Was the NFL’s ranking of Matthew Stafford fair?
Number 2, Russell Wilson
Danger “Russ”, Seattle Seahawks quarterback, Russell Wilson was in a position unknown to him previously. Prior to 2017, much like Carson Wentz, Wilson enjoyed more help than almost any quarterback in the NFL.
With an aging defense and no Beast Mode, aka running back Marshawn Lynch, Wilson got to see what it was like to truly carry his team.
Props to him, as his personal stats went up, even if his team’s win record did not (9-7). Wilson is a very good athlete, although not as big as Newton, but is a stellar passer and leader. His 586 yards rushing and 3 scores on the ground attest to his versatility.
Russell Wilson ranks number two because as good as his season was, it wasn’t the absolute best in touchdown to interception ratio, completion percentage, and his team is also still somewhat helpful. I could’ve put him in either place, though.
The Seattle defense was 13th in scoring, and though not as good as Brady or Wentz, his defense still holds teams to just over 20 points per contest. Wilson’s line was almost as poor as Stafford’s, ditto his run game.
