Is it possible the Detroit Lions are okay at tight end?
By Robert Jones
For the average fan the Lions tight end group does not make them sit up and take notice, nor inspire them with past accomplishments. But the key to the position is really wrapped up in how well they contribute as blockers for the running game as a collective group and what Willson and Roberts have to offer as receivers.
Willson will have his first real opportunity to show what he can do as a receiver, while Roberts will be asked to make steady progress as a receiver.
If Roberts is able to move ahead in learning curve at a faster rate, then that will only make the Lions offense that much better. Yet it is truly Willson who intrigues me going into next year.
Willson, the Canadian who grew up on just the other side of the Ambassador Bridge as a Lions fan, is a mature, savvy player that works hard and finds ways to contribute. It would seem that he will finally get his chance to prove what his hands can do and surrounded by the Lions talented receiving corps that should mean plenty of opportunities.
Willson is one of three Lions that are in position have very big break-out seasons, with others being middle linebacker Jarrad Davis and receiver Kenny Golladay.

As long as Luke Willson continues to be reliable and Michael Roberts keeps figuring out the NFL game, then maybe the extra ‘L’ will stand for Detroit Lions fans having much to ‘like’ this year from their tight ends.
