Detroit Lions tie up loose ends before regular season
What’s left over
No big issue, other than Stafford’s contract, has really been solved since last year. The Lions still have little pass rush, although Ansah’s return should help that some. Zettel, and a few others have improved, though.
The back-end, or secondary, had a number of signing’s and draft picks used to improve it. It is hard to say how good they can all be. They were abused by Tom Brady in the third preseason game, though.
The linebackers seem to have improved by adding leader and middle linebacker, Jarrad Davis, but the overall depth is still questionable.
The Lions have also continued to run the ball poorly, despite the efforts to beef up the offensive line, and Greg Robinson’s presence.
Of course, left guard Graham Glasgow , and lineman, Joe Dahl, have struggled this preseason. Laken Tomlinson was just traded to the San Francisco 49ers for a fifth round pick. The line has had its share of injuries, as well. They have yet to show any major improvement in production.
Final cuts are coming to trim the roster down to the final 53. There are some difficult decisions to be made.
