Stafford the family guy

Ultimately, Stafford will have to factor in whether or not his wife, Kelly, and their two recently born  daughters feel like Detroit is their home, as well. Fatherhood changes your priorities.

Another factor is possible coaching changes that may occur. Stafford’s working relationship with Jim Bob Cooter is well publicized, and he has done extremely well under Cooter.

If either head coach, Jim Caldwell, or Cooter were to leave, who knows how that would motivate Stafford.

There are a lot of moving parts to this situation. Fans know that we need to retain Matthew Stafford. I believe Stafford when he has said that his desire is to stay in Detroit. As a Lions fan, though, I know the franchise has not always done everything necessary to keep our best players happy.

Franchise players will be skeptical of their team when they haven’t won a division title in twenty-five years. Players like Calvin Johnson, Barry Sanders, and Ndamukong Suh may leave or retire if they don’t feel that they can win; that’s sports. The Lions have a chance to keep a good one if they can convince him that they are on the right path.
