If you follow me on Twitter, then you know that I’m a card carrying member of the Colt McCoy fan club.

The fact of the matter is this. At this point the Lions have no viable option at back up quarterback if Matthew Stafford were to go down. When Jim Caldwell goes, Dan Orlovsky will likely be going too. What are the Lions going to do at that point? sign Kellen Moore? Just stop right now. Also if you’re contemplating acquiring Robert Griffin III, meet out in front of Comerica. I’ll be the guy giving Stone Cold Stunners to people wearing RG3 jerseys .

Colt McCoy is the real deal folks. By that of course I mean he’s a viable option to back up Matthew Stafford and not much else. Simply put Colt can win you games in a pinch if needed. You’ve likely seen him do it before. Notably last season when he led the Redskins to big win over the Cowboys on a Monday night.

Colt obviously won’t soak up much cap space at all. But the Lions will be happy they made this small investment if they should happen to do so.

Let’s talk about another guy that will be cheap and effective.
