Derek Carr, QB, Oakland Raiders

No, that’s not a typo. It appears as if the Oakland Raiders may have actually found themselves a fantasy relevant quarterback for the first time since Rich Gannon. (Yes, some of us played fantasy football in 2001.)

Just one week removed from the Raiders skilled position players stocks plummeting, Derek Carr took to the field last Sunday and lit up the Baltimore Ravens in Oakland. Carr completed 30 of 46 attempts on the day and also threw for three touchdowns.

The most appealing thing about Carr however, is his potential and upside as the season moves along. He gets a stout Cleveland Browns secondary this Sunday, but is fresh off of perhaps the best game of his young career.

Following the Ravens kicking a field goal and taking a 33-30 lead, Carr and the Raiders offense got the ball back with 2:10 remaining in the game. Carr would take his unit down the field, ultimately throwing a 12-yard touchdown to earn the Raiders the win.

Although Carr spread things around — he completed at least one pass to 10 different players — he did a great job hooking up with Michael Crabtree and rookie Amari Cooper, as they combined to catch 16 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns.

As long as there is no set backs with Carr’s thumb injury, he is also another guy that deserves a roster spot somewhere in your league.
