When I was originally putting this article together, it was only supposed to be about offense and defense as a whole. After going over Matthew Stafford’s preseason numbers, I had to include him in this piece. Matthew Stafford had a lackluster season in 2014. That’s no Shocker to anyone. But what is interesting is if you look at Matthew Stafford’s 204 preseason stats, you’ll see it was a preview of coming attractions.

As you can see, Stafford’s numbers looked like they were going to be a less than all along. Thinking about Matthew Stafford’s 2014 season would make anyone want to scream. Hey I wanted to scream too. But the reality is that Stafford did managed to improve his completion percentage and lowered his interceptions to a career low. You can see that take shape in the 2014 preseason.

In 2015, Stafford has shown something completely different.Poise and maturity. Granted it’s only preseason, Matthew Stafford has looked better than he ever has as far maturity and coolness under pressure goes. He can thank his offensive line for that to some degree. Let’s take look at his stats.

CMP ATT CMP % Yards YPG TD’s INT QBR
19 25 76 308 102.7 3 0 156.3

As you can see, Matthew Stafford has shown some great improvements all across the board. His QBR is the highest of any quarterback in the NFL through the preseason. The only quarterback to come close is Drew Brees with 156.0. Once again, it’s only the preseason, but the Lions and their fans have to like what Stafford has shown them thus far. He must translate this into the regular season.
