The case for Ryan Broyles

Ryan Broyles really hasn’t seen much action this preseason. He really didn’t see much action in the 2014 season either, catching 2 passes for a total of 25 yards.

I see talent in Broyles, but his injury history is a major concern for me, and apparently amongst coaches too. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2012 in the second round. When he was drafted, he was rehabbing from a torn ACL in his left knee that occurred late in his senior season at Texas A&M. 10 games into his rookie season, he tore the ACL in his right knee. Honestly, I don’t think he has been the same since.

Luck has not been on his side at all in his NFL career. From a coaching standpoint, I can see them saying “What happens when he makes a cut on the field and tears it again, and we are down a wide receiver?”. And, the concern is much validated. With as deep as the wide receiver position is looking to be, unfortunately, I see Broyles getting cut from the team this year. Trust me, this isn’t something I’m happy about, it’s just the reality of it all.
