The Good

Let’s go ahead and jump into what’s on everyone’s mind. Ameer Abdullah lit the world on fire on Thursday night and continued to build extra cars on the hype train. Abdullah finished with seven carries for 67 yards. He juked and jived his way into the heart of Lions fans everywhere with the play above. Now I still urge Lions fans to hold their excitement for just a little while longer. It’s clear the kid has potential, but we still need to see it consistently.

Offensive Line looked good

I’d be remiss if I didn’t give the line some credit for Abdullah’s performance. They did a great job of opening up holes for the rookie running back and kept Matthew Stafford and Kellen Moore on their feet most of the game. obviously the same advice I gave on Abdullah is the same I’ll give for the line. Let it play out in the season first.

The Receiver battle is on

Greg Salas exploded for five receptions for 92 yards and  touchdown. Salas was thought to be a guy that wouldn’t make the final 53 man roster, he certainly made a case for himself Thursday night. Lance Moore quietly had himself a nice game as well bringing in to receptions for 19 yards. Doesn’t quite jump off the page, but Moore looked good while he was doing it. Ryan Broyles and Andre Peacock chipped in as well but did nothing to separate themselves from the pack.

The offense strikes quick

The Lions wasted no time getting the offense going. The Lions got down the field and scored in just under three minutes of game time. This bodes well for the Lions as the main concern in 2014 was the Lions inability to establish the offense early. Matthew Stafford made two great passes to Golden Tate and Tate made absolutely beautiful moves on both of them. The second one a 35 yard touchdown.

Along with Abdullah’s great play, and surprisingly good rushing by Theo Riddick, the Lions looked exactly like fans hoped they would look like. But you obviously know what I’m going to say about getting excited.
