16. Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens, for the time they’ve existed, have often been known for tough, bruising defenses. That image blends well with the black and purple color scheme.

The raven logo is rather uninspiring and I’m never a fan of helmet stripes that thin and disappear in the back — so they lose a few points in my mind — but still, the entire look rates solid average (to slightly above).

As a kid I had a couple of those gumball machine football helmets. One day the New Orleans Saints helmet got stepped on and was instantly crushed into oblivion. That was a sad day.

The metallic gold and black combination has always been cool, and the use of the fleur-de-lis as the logo is perfect for a team representing the city of New Orleans. I don’t know that I love the black shirt, black pants combination, but it’s a solid uniform overall.

14. Buffalo Bills

The charging buffalo logo is one of the sneaky-good logos in all of sports.

I like the change that was made a few years ago to return to the white helmet – I’m a sucker for white helmets – that now allows for the use of the old stationary buffalo throwback logo as well. Getting away from the darker navy color and moving to the brighter royal blue color has been a positive change.

Above average all around. Very solid.

13. Dallas Cowboys

I like when teams develop quirks for little other reason than “that’s what they do”, so I’ve come to enjoy the fact that the Dallas Cowboys (almost) never wear their blue jerseys at home. It always forces a double-take when Dallas is forced into the blues on the road.

Quirks aside, the Cowboys’ silver helmet and blue star makes for one of the most iconic looks in the league. There’s nothing overly snazzy going on here, but the uniform is (refreshingly) one of the few things about the franchise that isn’t all-out over-the-top.
