Dan Orlovsky is the Backup Quarterback (for now)
Dan Orlovsky’s performance against the Browns was bad to say the least. He completed just 12 passes on 21 attempts for a total of 89 yards, and couldn’t get any rhythm going with the second-team offense.
Of course the organization is going to back him up, but when you consider how well Moore has done in the preseason over the past two years, and the fact that he’s young and still has potential, then why not give him a shot?
Despite his struggles, the Lions are persistent that Orlovsky remains the number two quarterback behind Matthew Stafford, and the competition between Orlovsky and those behind him is non-existent.

Moore will probably never amount to more than a backup QB in this league due to his poor arm strength, but his feel for the game is unquestioned. He is an extremely intelligent player, and it’s great to have him on the sideline with your star QB.
If Orlovsky continues to bounce his passes off the turf while Moore continues to shred third-team defenses, I wouldn’t be shocked if coaches change their mind on the backup QB situation.
