A very average performance for the Lions special teams units. Micheal Spurlock still leaves something to be desired in the return game, though he still hasn’t made any big mistakes. Devin Hester broke loose for a couple of decent kick returns. Sam Martin punted well, but David Akers missed a field goal. Kickers make their money on the road and outdoors, and Akers hasn’t been great. I like SLR’s mid-game tweet.
Expect the Lions to find their Sam Martin at kicker next draft.

Coaching: B
I wasn’t a fan of the non-use of Detroit’s first half timeouts at the end of the half, though to be fair, nobody knew they’d be creating a turnover. They got a huge division win on the road though, so what more can you ask for? I wrote this beauty after Week 1 this season, and am not ashamed to say I’m not the biggest Schwartz fan. But he’s getting better. He’s learning. I really think we’re seeing progression in Jim Schwartz’s coaching abilities. Perhaps he is the long-term solution.
First place is going to feel lonely this week.
