The Health of Louis Delmas

After reportedly visiting with other teams, free-agent safety Louis Delmas signed an incentive-heavy contract to return to Detroit. The health of his knees (or lack thereof) concerned fans, and rightfully so. Although Martin Mayhew and company went out and signed Glover Quin (one of the most underrated signings this offseason, in my opinion), the idea of starting the likes of Don Carey at safety was not appealing.

At the midway point of the season, the Lions strategy of holding Delmas out of practices has been successful. Delmas has started all eight games, played well against the run, and intercepted two passes. The Lions secondary, though troubled at times, is a different unit when Louis Delmas is able to stay on the field. Let’s hope the trend of healthy Lou continues during the second half of the season.
