The odds are against Goff and the Lions getting the upset

As the Lions charge into SoFi Stadium to battle Stafford and the Rams, focus will be squarely on Stafford. The narrative will be about a quarterback who was held captive in Detroit and has finally been freed to show how good he is.

For Stafford, it won’t be with malice in his heart that he rains touchdown passes against his former team. As for Goff, this is his revenge game. Despite anything that was said this week, this is the game that Goff wants to win more than any other game he has ever played outside of the aforementioned Super Bowl.

The slow starts that Goff has engineered have been putting the Lions behind the eight-ball. The offense cannot afford to have a slow start any week, but this week especially Goff needs to reach deep within himself and find a different level. The Lions’ defense needs all the help it can get, instead of the offense going dormant.

There will be those in the Motor City that hope Stafford decimates the Lions beyond belief. Many other loyal fans are grasping their good luck charms and praying for an upset.

What Lions fans have to remember is that the time had come to allow Stafford to go. His success or failure doesn’t mean anything in terms of the complete rebuild the Lions needed and are now knee-deep in.

Stafford is having a very good season and his story would seem to be on the rise with the playoffs firmly in his sight. Goff, on the other hand, is weighed down by a talent deficient team and his own limitations.
