WR’s who make sense for Detroit Lions

If you want to see who the free agents are at any position, you can check out the Over The Cap website, here. Here are three men who shouldn’t break the Lions’ bank but would be welcomed additions in Detroit.

Sammy Watkins is 6-foot-1, 211-pounds, and has better speed plus the lateral agility that have marked Goff’s targets in Los Angeles. He gets good separation, 3.6 yards average, but has been a mostly forgotten man in Kansas City behind Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce.

Watkins misses games almost every year but he’s a weapon that might do better in a new town and honestly, he’s the best wideout left for the Lions to pounce on. His durability is questionable but he fits what Goff goes well with.

T.Y. Hilton is another player that has a lot of similarities to Goff’s best targets and is still available. At just under 5-foot-10, 183 pounds, and with a sub-4.4-seconds sprint time, Hilton showed that he has some juice left in the tank in 2020. The 31-year-old had 56 receptions for 762 yards and five scores with Philip Rivers under center in Indianapolis.

He’s probably best utilized in the slot but Lynn could move him around to try to create mismatches for his offense. While his 2.5 average yards of separation aren’t the highest, it’s better than Marvin Jones or Kenny Golladay and is still very respectable.

Damiere Byrd has some of the traits that might make him a valuable asset in Detroit, too. Byrd is a 5-foot-9, 173 pounds, and is a slot player who can take the top off of a defense with his sub-4.3 speed. He broke out for over 600 yards in New England last year, even with a focus on the ground game.

At 28 years-old Byrd is still in his prime after being the surprise second receiver for Patriot’s head coach, Bill Belichick, in 2020. His 3.0 average yards of separation make him a good target.
